GER v USA v ROU: German Team

DTB recently announced the gymnasts competing at the Tri-Meet against Romania and the USA on the 30th March. I'm not sure if it's definite but here is the team;

The final spot will be between Pauline Tratz, Florine Harder, Alina Ehret and Pauline Schafer. There will be a training camp from the 25th to 28th March between Germany and USA and Carina Kroll, Kim Janas, Jannika Greber, Leah Griesser and Sarah Voss will be training but won't be competing at the competition. 

THIS WEEK'S NEWS

Its been a hectic week in the Gymnastics World and we have a lot of things to catch up on. So, without out further a do, get to the gymnastics.

Emerging Euros Competitors
Courtesy of Full Twist, a couple of gymnasts have been announced for this year's Individual European Championships being held in Moscow, Russia. The home team, Russia, have already confirmed their delagation after the Russian Nationals. Aliya Mustafina, Maria Paseka and Anastasia Grishina are already confirmed but the final spot is a battle between Ksenia Afansiieva, Yevgeniya Shelgunova and Anna Dementiieva. If you're worried about a missing face, Victoria Komova will not be competing after a temperamental back pain. If you were expecting to see Maria Kharenkova, she is still a junior until next year. 

Netherlands have announced their only two representatives as Noel Van Klaveren and Chantysha Netteb. If you're also excited about a particular face not being their, Eythora Thorsdottir is still a junior.

Gymnix - Complete Results
The L'International Gymnix annual competition was on last weekend and showcased the best of the best in Junior competition. In the team event, Russia took a win with just less than 2 points over Canada and the third place team was Japan. In the event finals, Omega Gymnastics' Shallon Olsen took home the gold on vault for Canada. Aleeza Yu managed a second place finish and Romanian Andreea Munteanu brings up the rear. 

Yuki Uchiyama from Japan took the bars competition with a 13.900. Behind her with 13.500 was French gymnast Louise Vanhille and tied for third was Berengere Fransolet and Anastasia Dmitrieva respectively. 

Beam was impressive. Andreea Munteanu of Romania managed a beam win with 14.266. Russian hopeful Maria Bondareva managed a silver. Rose Kaying-Woo keeps the medals coming for the home Canadian team.

Switzerland v Austria v Czech Rep. v Slovakia
A quad meet against some of the less developed European gymnastics countries was held last weekend. The favorites, Switzerland, won the meet. Czech Republic managed a silver and the bronze went to Austria. Switzerland found two of their gymnasts at the top of the all-around podium. First year senior Ilaria Kaslin with a 52.850, a score that would've qualified her to the 2011 World Championships All-Around Final (random but funky fact there). Swiss Veteran Jessica Diacci got a silver. Jasmin Mader of Austria got the bronze

Dancing Shows Commits and Successes
British Olympic Medalist Beth Tweddle won the UK Series 'Dancing on Ice', a celebrity show where celebrities skate and perform to the judges and get voted for etc. She made the final and suprisingly won it against Eastenders star Matt Lapinskas, meanwhile 2012 Olympic Champion Alexandra Raisman has committed to be in the US series of 'Dancing With the Stars' previously won by ex-Olympian Shawn Johnson in 2009. Aly will be dancing with professional dancer Matt Ballas. Go Aly!

NASTIA LIUKIN CUP: RESULTS

One of the most prestigious events in the JO National Calendar is the Nastia Liukin Supergirl Cup. It's a competition up to Level 10 gymnasts and gymnasts aged 12-18 so it's quite a broad age range. Favorites coming into this competition were Mackenzie Brannan,  Alexandra McMurtry and Charity Jones. 

It was a very tight competition between the 34 girls but Alexandra McMurtry was the eventual winner of the all-around cup.

The Espoir competition at the English championships finished a few minutes ago. In case you didn't know, the English Championships is like the US/Secret Classic of Britain. It's a warm-up meet for the National Championships being held this year in Liverpool. Also, an espoir gymnast is an elite aged 12-13 years old. Favorites for the title were AYOF competitors Teal Grindle and Catherine Lyons but the actually all-around went to Georgia Mae Fenton from the home club of Europa.

NCAA WEEK NINE: WAG & MAG VIDEO & STATS GUIDE

Week Nine is already here. I can't believe the first season I've started watching college is around halfway through. The Oklahoma Sooners have taken the lead in the RQS National Rankings. The Florida Gators have dominated this year but find themselves just 0.482 points off the top of the league. Bridgeport are top of Division 2 and Brockport State find themselves leading Division 3.

THE TOP 5 WORST CHOREOGRAPHED FLOOR ROUTINES

Usually, floor brings us artistry and grace but these culprits are destroying the floor. These are my top 5 picks for the worst floor routines so if you don't agree, please don't get in a brawl with me.

As far as college choreography goes, this is the worst

Well, this is the stereotypical choice and it is quite unfair that Brossy gets judged by this but I don't know, it's just so mechanical and she can't help it. It's cringey!

3. Hong Un Jong (PRK) 2008
This is really sad because (not being a bitch), I've probably seen more artistic MAG routines. I think that she would be much better suited in T&T because she rocks tumbling but it's sad.

I love Brenna but where is the choreography? Literally?

TOKYO WORLD CUP: START LIST

The Tokyo World Cup made it's debut last year. It's an all-around competition on the FIG World Cup circuit. It's from 3rd-8th April 2013. 

There is currently a reserved spot for the USA but no gymnast has been selected.

This meet sounds interesting. 

BRITISH CHAMPIONSHIPS: MY COVERAGE

Well, you may or may not know but I am going to the British Championships at the Echo Arena, Liverpool next month and I am super hyped. It's the biggest national meet in Britain and is basically a qualifier/decider for European and World competitions. In 2012, first year senior Rebecca Tunney took the all-around title. It's shaping up to be a great field with amazing new seniors like Gabrielle Jupp (2013 American Cup competitor) and Angel Romaeo. The older, more experienced gymnasts are likely to include Hannah Whelan, Rebecca Tunney and Niamh Rippin. Unfortunately, we won't see Jennifer Pinches or Beth Tweddle due to retirement. 

So enough of the pre competition story, I am going to the Event Finals on Sunday 24th March, so make sure you keep note of that. So you know, the top 8 girls go up on each event  and battle for victory. 

The biggest part of the annoyance of overseas gymnastics is time zones. It's quite annoying when you want to watch an event but have to stay up at stupid o'clock. It's an early start at 10:30am so make sure all you gym fans, get up and follow the action. Here is a list of the major times from other time zones (if you're is not listed, sorry!);

Eastern Time - 6:30am EST

Central Time - 5:30am CST

Pacific Time - 3:30am PST

Mountain Time - 4:30am MST

Sydney Time - 9:30pm EDT

Moscow Time - 1:30pm MSK

Eastern European Time - 12:30pm EET


So, many of you have said that you would like video coverage on YT so I'm likely to be bringing my video camera. I am also going to be live tweeting but not as regular as videos. I also may be able to live blog but I am down for YT and Twitter.
