AMERICAN CUP 2013: UPDATES

We are currently waiting for this years first international meet which will be held in Worcester, Massachusetts in America. the USAG have released a new roster.
Parkettes' gymnast and 2012 Glasgow Grand Prix winner Elizabeth Price was forced to withdraw from the competition with an injury and Romanian Olympian Larisa Iordache has also had to withdraw from the competition. Canadian gymnast Victoria Moors has been added to the list and it is as follows;

VICTORIA KOMOVA MAY MISS EUROPEANS

Olympian Victoria Komova may miss the Russian Championships and consequently, the Europeans in Russia later on in the year, due to a back injury. 

Her back started to play up at the National training centre in Round Lake.

The Russian Championships will be held in Penza from March 1-7th and selections will be made there so she must be at the competition.

NCAA 2013: WEEK 4 SCHEDULE

As you may or may not know, the world gymnast is now flexibly covering the NCAA tournaments but it's obviously hard to watch live events with budgets and time zones. After 3 weeks already, Michigan sit on top with a lead over UCLA. Nevada's Emily Wong was the star all-arounder last week so let's see the gymnastics team who are going head to head this week

NCAA 2013: NEW COVERAGE

Hello gym fans, 

I'm happy to inform you that I have decided to take The World Gymnast to the NCAA. If you didn't know, the NCAA is an American league that specializes in college gymnastics. It's based in America but seeing as I'm from Britain, coverage may be hard so I was wondering if anyone could be a NCAA reporter/contributer. Basically, all you'll need to do is tweet, watch and review the weekly standings and gymnasts. If you're interested, e-mail me at; the.world.gymnast1@googlemail.com or tweet me; @theworldgymnast. I'd be delighted if you could do it:) 

Michigan State have taken the team standings after 3 weeks into the year. Nebraska's Emily Wong takes the All-Around top score this week followed by Florida's Ashanee Dickerson. 

No.9 ranked Arkansas, No.20 ranked Southern Utah, No.22 West Virginia and No.25 BYU have all dropped out already for several reasons according to the NCAA website.

American Cup 2013: The Roster

The annual American (SCAM) Cup is back for another year. The DCU Center in New England is the home of the meet this year. The American Camp is represented this year by Elizabeth Price from Parkettes and Kyla Ross from Gym Max. On the male side, Jake Dalton and Danell Leyva will try to snatch the title for America.

GLASGOW GRAND PRIX: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Glasgow Grand Prix is starting tomorrow at the new Emirates Arena, home to the very best international elites competing for event final places. It's set to be a packed house with all the tickets sold out but there are numerous ways you can still get involved with watching from your computer etc. 

Tonight at 19.30, Olivia Oldroyd, Louis Smith, Beth Tweddle and Craig Heap are looking ahead for the competition on 5 Live click here for the link

Tomorrow, BBC Sport will live action on the website (not the television) of the meet getting underway from 13.00-15.30 and Radio 5 will be on from 12.50-15.00, unfortunately I think the live streaming is for Britons only.

SWISS CUP: PAIRINGS

It's a big night tonight at the Hallenstadion, Zurich. Gymnasts from Korea to Belarus are showing their gymnastics flare as a pair. How it works is that from one delegation, the team consists of a female and male gymnast and they choose their strongest events to compete on then the weakest pair, who are last, will be eliminated after two rounds then another elimination after round three. 

We have a slight clue of what the gymnasts may be competing or if they've put in another skill too their routine because many of them competed in the Arthur Gander Memorial earlier this week so we can have a chance to see. 


1. Germany A: Elisabeth Seitz, Fabian Hambuchen
Eli and Fabian won this meet in 2010 so they already have bags of experience. They been to the Olympics and peaked well at Nationals etc. I think that will definitely be the ones to beat. 

2. Switzerland A: Giulia Steingruber, Claudio Capelli
This pairing won this meet last year so again they have experience. Steingruber won the recent Arthur Gander meet this week so she will definitely have the confidence, will the home advantage be enough to bring them to a second victory? 

3. Belarus: Anastassia Marachkouskaya, Andrey Livckhovitsky
A very experienced team from Belarus, but age means maturity. They both had outstanding results at this week's Arthur Gander placing 2nd and 4th, exceeding their expectations. 

4. Germany B: Kim Bui, Marcel Nguyen
Bui is a little inconsistent but if she can hit then she will definitely have a chance and Marcel is also weak on Pommels. They need to hit more than anything if they want a shot. 

5. Ukraine: Mariya Kivchikova, Oleg Stepko
This is one of Livchikova's first meets after coming back from various injuries at Worlds & Stella Zakharova. They are both new to the elite scene and their gymnastics is absolutely beautiful but the consistency can weigh the grace down. 

6. Russia: Yulia Belokobylskaya, Igor Pakhamenko 
Both gymnasts competed at this weeks Arthur Gander. Yulia finished bottom and Igor finished first so they may find themselves right slam in the middle. If Yulia's routines come off then the execution will raise the roof. 

7. Great Britain: Niamh Rippin, Sam Oldham
The British duo didn't compete that well at the Arthur Gander. Sam has had a fantastic first senior year with the Olympics and Niamh has been quite quiet but she is booked for Glasgow Grand Prix so hopefully they can redeem themselves in Zurich. 

8. Italy: Carlotta Ferlito, Paolo Ottavi 
Ferlito has also had a great year this year with Europeans and Olympics and starring in MTV's 'ginnaste.' They did pretty well at the Arthur Gander so let's hope they can hold strong

9. South Korea: Jie Hye Sung, Hak Seon Yang
Korea don't really have a very good trap record for their Swiss Cup results, usually being eliminated in the 1st round but Yang Hak Seon is Olympic Vault Champion so hold onto your hats for one rotation but I doubt we'll see them place, it's just experience.

10. Switzerland B: Jessica Diacci, Nils Haller
This is definitely the wildcard team. Jessica Diacci has had a few international meets but I haven't heard of Nils. We'll have to wait and see.
