CAQUATTO!

America's Bridgette Caquatto won the All-around final at the Pan American's in Mexico. Sofi Porras Gomez took the silver medal 0.45 behind Caquatto.Christina  Vaculik was the bronze medalist followed by her compatriot Christine Lee just out of the medals. The highest vault scorer was Brandie Jay. Bars was Bridgette then Brandie then Christiyna Vaculik. Beam was Porras followed by Lee.

The USA stormed to victory yesterday in the Women's Pan Americans Team Final. But let's take a look at what the rest of the competition has for us.


Like the top 24 All-around Girls. Ana Sofiya Porras is top qualifier after Qualification round but Peng Peng was just 0.1 behind her.

Finals and All That Jazz!

It's been two exciting days in the worlds! First, the women kicked off the back-to-back all-around competitions. Here's more:


Jordyn Wieber was the eventual winner. Viktoriya Komova was edged out by 0.017 points. Jinnan won the bronze. Qiushuang was wearing an AWFUL leo! It would give, Sajn, a run for her money!
Eli Seitz was really scaring me with her bars set. I nearly fell of my chair when I saw her full twisting shapo, it's got all the tricks, but she needs to learn to execute as she only got 13.933. Jarosch had some strong scoring! Nice to see some new faces. You say your BRITISH? Whelan came 9th with an impressive 14.333 beam set! The Porgy that failed quals scored 15.10 on beam today and placed 6th. BRAVO! Koko didn't have the meet she wanted, 2 falls but 14.70 for beam, beats Komova!! Lozza Mitchell turned her starting 13.133 around to make an 8th place finish. Poor Jess! She was so confident her new upgrades were key, then she goes an scores 10.30 on bars?, bars is challenging but 10.30 is very under par. Her highest score was 14.0 for vault, which leaves her empty handed anyway! Great Event for Peng Peng. 19th for a new senior?? Okay!

Team Final Results!

Sorry, I couldn't cover the Women's TF. I've decided that I am only going to do live commentary on Saturday and Sunday for event finals. 


Moving to the event, It was the American team that won the gold medal. They shone throughout the whole competition with their lowest score being 14.366 from Vega. Jordyn Wieber was the highest ranked individual of the event.


In second position, The 'Stoi'-ers were. Vika had a pretty rough competition in the last two pieces. She fell on beam on her 3 element connection and had a big stumble on her opener. All-around qualifier, Afanasyeva, was only working vault and floor but scored 14.50+ on each event.
Strong comp for Nabs. She was just shy of 15 for her bars. Inshina and Belokobylskaya have been fairly quite these champs. Belo only did floor but scored 14.633 and Inshina got 14.30 for beam, her only event.


China got 3rd. A poor showing for Sixin. She scored 12.066 for floor (Eugh!) Jiang only vaulted. 14.166 isn't too shabby. Jinnan was definitely the best gymnast in the Chinese camp.


Romania. 4th. No surprises. They used Porgy for beam. She didn't fall and scored 15.30. Bulimar only did floor. 14.266. Each girl did a successful round.


Great Britain managed an amazing 5th, the best they've ranked in a World team final? Tweddle scored 15.666 and 14.533 for her events. Hannah Whelan scored with high 13's and a high 14. Imogen did the power events. After her beam in Quals, Becky only did bars with 14.433.


An amazing achievement to make Team finals, but to come 6th for Germany is GREAT! Chuso was great on vault but slipped away on Beam (12.70) Seitz and Jarosch were definitely the team leaders. They scored high 13's and lower 14's. Bui didn't vault. 14.30 for bars and a 13.733 for floor was a good competition for the girl that has been disappointed at this level and Olympic level so many times.


Taking the 7th and last places were Japan and Australia. Yuumi Iizuka was the injured girl as she wasn't on the start list.

I think, today, is the last day of podium training? It's day 4 anyway. Here is some of the over-night news.

Mariya Livchikova Hurt?

This first year senior powerhouse Mariya Livchikova is sporting a taped up ankle but was found huddle on the bench next to Anastasiia Koval, The alternate.

Hope this isn't the end of the line, as she recently injured her ankle at the Stella Zakharova Cup.

Reserve Huang Qiushuang is now stepping in for Wu Liufang

The Chinese have decided on this switch for tactical reasons, as they really need Huang’s DTY to vie for the gold here in Tokyo.  They have decided their line-up on vault is insufficient.  This decision is not set in stone, according to the news source, but for now Huang is officially a member.

Two More Americans Down, USA's Team Medal In Smoke?

Following Anna Li's injury, Brestyan's Alicia Sacramone and Alexandra Raisman both went down in practice yesterday. 


Raisman and Sacramone are being evaluated on the ankle as that is where the injury is. Non-travelling alternate Shawn Johnson may have to step but with only 2 days til Qualifying day, Team USA will need to think fast about the decision.

Li's OUT!

Anna Li, a former collegiate gymnast, has sustained an abdominal injury forcing her to leave the podium and competition. She struggled at Monday's podium training and has missed workouts. 


Li didn't officially withdraw from the team, so could still be used for Team finals.
